A majority of these players will be available during your week 13 waiver pickups. I went a little deeper this week with some of these selections for those of you who are in deeper fantasy baseball leagues, but at the same time there is a lot of value on this list even for though in standard leagues.
Leonys Martin (OF) | Texas Rangers – 9% owned on Yahoo! Sports
Before the 2013 season, Leonys Martin only had 54 career major league at bats. He’s currently riding a 9 game hitting streak (3 of which were multi-hit games), which he’ll look to continue the streak tomorrow night at the Yankees. He should continue to see regular playing time as he continues to produce in the Rangers lineup.
Ben Revere (OF) | Philadelphia Phillies – 50% owned on Yahoo! Sports
As of late, Ben Revere is playing like the center fielder they’d hope he would be when trading Vance Worley for him this past offseason. The 25-year-old former first round pick has been on a tear as of late, raising his batting average from .266 to .276 over the past 10 games. Over that stretch, he’s also had 6 stolen bases. He won’t produce many RBIs, but he’s a good source of runs and stolen bases.
Nick Franklin (2B) | Seattle Mariners – 35% owned on Yahoo! Sports
The Mariners prized possession second baseman Nick Franklin is showing why they were so high on him. He has 3 multi-RBI games over his past 7 contests (twice he recorded 3 RBIs in a game), and seems to be fitting into the major league system well as of late. He’s just 22 years of age, so he should gain baseball maturity over the remainder of the season. He doesn’t even have a full month of big league experience under his belt yet. Pick him up and be patient on this guy.
Brian Dozier (2B) | Minnesota Twins – 12% owned on Yahoo! Sports
Though his overall stats don’t look pretty, Brian Dozier has been raking as of late. 4 of his 7 homeruns this season have come in his past 7 games. While he may not ‘wow’ you with his batting average (only at .229 on the season), he has been hot enough to grab while things are going well for the second baseman.
Peter Bourjos (OF) | Los Angeles Angels – 18% owned on Yahoo! Sports
X-rays that were taken after Sunday’s game against the Pirates came back negative on Peter Bourjos’ left thumb. Bourjos is a good source of runs, stolen bases, and this season he’s also a good source for batting average as he’s hitting .331 on the year. He has 5 multi-hit games in his past 10 games and he looks like he should continue to see regular playing time as he continues to produce.
Gregor Blanco (OF) | San Francisco Giants – 9% owned on Yahoo! Sports
Gregor Blanco may be the hottest player on this list right now. A career .261 hitter; Blanco is making the most of his opportunity by getting multi-hit game after multi-hit game. Over his last 10 games, he’s batting .447 with 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Over the past two weeks (14 days), Blanco is tied for 3rd place in the Major Leagues with 20 hits (.435 average).
Josh Reddick (OF) | Oakland Athletics – 32% owned on Yahoo! Sports
While Josh Reddick surely isn’t a guy who will help your batting average, his power numbers are well above average. Last season in his first year with the Athletics, Reddick smashed 32 home runs but only batted .242. As he got off to a slow start here in 2013, Reddick has the type of power potential that can’t be forgotten. If you are in need of homeruns and he is available in your league, now would be the time to pick him up before he goes on his homerun binge.
Colby Rasmus (OF) | Toronto Blue Jays – 30% owned Yahoo! Sports
Similar to Reddick, Colby Rasmus is more valuable because of his power numbers more so than his overall ability. He to me is the #1 free agent pickup of week 13. After clubbing 23 homeruns in 2012; Rasmus is looking to break his previous career high, as he’s already at 14 on the season. He had the best season of his young career last season, as he’s looking like a player that is on the rise for the rest of the season.
